What’s All this Hype about Frankincense?

Frankincense (BOSWELLIA CARTERI) is the gum resin from the Boswellia Tree.  For thousands of years Frankincense has been used as a holistic medicine treating several health conditions, such as:

  • Reducing inflammation
  • Potential cancer-fighting properties
  • Increasing spiritual awareness
  • Boosting immunityfrankincense-1001
  • Fighting infections
  • Improving and relieving anxiety
  • Healing skin and reducing acne and scarring

Studies have shown that Frankincense Essential Oil has proven effective in killing cancer cells. (read more about this here). Studies have also shown that Frankincense is effective in treating and lessening inflammation in patients with osteoarthritis. Not to mention the effects that Frankincense has on the skin.. studies have shown that Frankincense can treat ailments such as eczema, burns, cuts, scrapes, age spots, wrinkles, and more  (read more about these studies here)

After learning about the healing qualities of this natural oil, I wanted to create a massage balm to aid in lessening the inflammation I have due to osteoarthritis. Here is the frankincense essential oil recipe that I used (which equals about a 3% essential oil dilution rate):

  • 2oz coconut oil
  • 1oz olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of african shea butter
  • 1 tablespoon organic beeswax
  • 72 drops Frankincense essential oil

I melt these ingredients (except the frankincense) in a double boiler and when all ingredients are a smooth melted liquid, I remove from heat I then add the frankincense oil and pour into a 4 oz jar. After it cools completely, it makes a fantastic skin balm.

I have my moments where my body is so stiff in the mornings that I cannot move. Or, after a long day of work and overdoing it, my bones and joints ache in agony. That’s when I go for my Frankincense Essential Oil Balm. I rub this balm on all my achy joints. Within minutes I can feel a difference. I am amazed. You can see where I get my Frankincense essential oil clicking here, and learn more about this fantastic oil.

Something I just began is the ingestion of Frankincense Essential Oil. Now, you have to be CERTAIN that you are getting your Frankincense essential oil from a reputable source (like this one from Purely) BEFORE you even think about ingesting this stuff. Some marketed essential oils are chemically processed rather than steam distilled & cold compressed.. this can make you very sick if you ingest these chemicals and not so good even apply it to your skin. I feel confident with the pure, steam distilled brand that I get here, and I feel safe ingesting this brand. When using Purely Frankincense Essential Oil as a supplement,  I add 1 drop per 4 oz. of liquid and I use it no more than three times per day. I am excited to see where this journey takes me, and will definitely keep you updated!

I hope that you find this info helpful, and that what works for me might work for you.

Peace and Love, Mrs. Tee

Purely’s stance on Ingesting Oils (from company website)

We at PURELY™ have been asked to address our stance on the ingestion of our essential oils. Many people do use oils in this way while others recommend to only use oils topically or by inhalation. Understanding essential oils and their methods of use can be quite confusing when you begin reading books and articles, and we believe that it is important to know your oils and how to safely use them.

PURELY™ takes great pride in our Simply Pure™ promise. Our essential oils are tested to ensure their purity and that they are of the highest grade which is necessary for therapeutic uses. Although you can purchase oils from health food stores, there is no guarantee that the oils you are purchasing do not have toxic or synthetic chemicals added. If you are unsure about an oil you are using — even if labeled as pure — please do not use it.

Humans have consumed plants for centuries. On a daily basis, we all consume oils from foods that are flavored with natural flavorings. The book The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils by Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D., covers how our bodies process essential oils. He also explains how first-time oil users should begin with one drop of an oil, such as lemon, which begins detoxifying your body of xenobiotics (toxic chemicals): “The reader will find that basic information and a dose of common sense are a perfect foundation to safely explore the many uses of essential oils. This is not to say that there will never be an unpleasant experience. An oil might be irritating or more stimulating than expected… Compared to the hundreds of thousands of deaths caused by the wrongful application of conventional medicines and the hundreds of thousands of deaths caused by known side effects of conventional drugs, the journeys to explore essential oils are innocent and utterly harmless.” (Schnaubelt 74).

Oral consumption of oils is a personal choice, and we cannot make that decision for you. God gave us plants for medicinal uses, and the benefits of plant oils are amazing however you choose to use them. Depending on your health goals, topical application or inhalation may be more effective.

At PURELY™ we trust our standards and we do suggest ingestion as a method of use. We do understand that some individuals may have some reservations about ingesting essential oils, and we recommend seeking the advice of a medical professional. Educating yourself on the proper ways to safely use essential oils is very important. Always be sure to follow the directions on the labels for safe methods of use.

We encourage all of our Advisors to educate themselves and their customers on safe practices. It is only through education and thoughtful planning that our Advisors can best serve their customers in the use of these powerful, life-changing products.
