Tis the season… for bees. Ugh. I don’t like bees. But we’ve gotta have them! So we can’t just go around killing bees…! And we shouldn’t be using any harsh chemicals to keep them away either. We just need them to stay away from us! In the evenings I want to go relax on my porch in my favorite chair without getting up and running away from bees. Here are a few things that have worked for me to deter bees:
The Peppermint essential oil is my favorite, as it keeps away spiders too (WIN, WIN!) I mix 2 cups of water with 30 drops of Peppermint essential oil in a spray bottle, mix it up, and spray away! I pay close attention to the corners of the porch, roof, and the banisters. This is where bees like to build nests out there and I ain’t having it on my porch 🙂 I spray this stuff all over my favorite chair as well… It keeps the spiders and other icky bugs from trying to take a seat where they don’t belong.
Avon’s Skin So Soft is a miracle oil in itself. If you haven’t ever tried it for your skin, you are missing out in a BIG way. BUT, did you know that it has helped me time and time again keep mosquitoes from biting, flies from landing, and ticks from attaching to my skin where I spray it. I decided to put it to the test of keeping bees away. I mixed 1/4 cup SSS oil with 2 cups of water. Again, I sprayed the corners, the banisters, and all over myself (this stuff is GREAT). Awesome results!
Citronella is well-known for its mosquito repelling abilities. This stuff works great to keep bees away as well. Bees have a super sense of smell, and they do not seem to like the smell of citronella. I mix 2 cups of water with 30 drops of Citronella and spray the same as above.
Bees are a necessity, I just don’t want them to sting me. ❤
The above applications have worked for me, I hope it will work for you.
