Spiders. I can’t even type that word without getting cold chills. Now sure, spiders have their place in this world. I don’t want to go around killing all the poor little spiders. BUT, I do want them to stay AWAY from me.
I wanted to find a way to keep them out of my house, away from my house, and away from my outdoor furniture and decks. So I began to research “Natural Spider Deterrents”… and much to my surprise, my love of essential oils did not let me down!
Cedarwood. Such a powerful word. So magical! So wonderful that I feel it needs a red carpet rolled before it, or at least all caps every time it’s typed. Cedarwood Essential Oil is my go-to for SO many things. It’s what I use when my eczema is trying to take over. It’s what I grab for when I am making a muscle rub blend. This stuff works WONDERS on my restless legs at night. The anti-inflammatory properties of this oil are amazing. I even add a few drops to my wax warmer to freshen up my living room’s scent. It smells soooo good! Now I am adding super anti-spider powers to the list. Let me tell you how!
I used a 32 ounce spray bottle and filled it to the neck (I needed some room left to shake it up, oils and water separate upon sitting and you’ll need to shake this up at every use.) I added 10 drops of cedarwood oil to the spray bottle, along with a few drops of peppermint. Peppermint (one of my FAVORITES!) smells great and it has its own little anti-big life properties. You will want to omit the peppermint oil if you are using this spray where pets are around, as mint oils can be toxic to your furbabies. Put the spray top on, give it a shake, and spray! I use this in all the corners in my house, under tables and desks, pretty much every little spot where spiders may like to hide. I spray my window screens and sills, inside and out, and all door frames as well. I re-spray about once a week or so. It worked awesome on my patio furniture to keep spiders and bugs from sitting in my favorite chair!
Can you believe that wood from the Cedarwood tree could achieve so many wonderful things? This essential oil will stay in my cupboard for many years to come.
Here is the Cedarwood Essential Oil that I like best. It is cost efficient and has some pretty awesome reviews.
